Honesty Hour (8)

Hey Chroniclers! Welcome to Thursday which brings you another edition of Honesty Hour! Honesty Hour is a meme where unlike a review, it's more of a discussion full of spoilers and whatnot. And unlike a review, I might speak about multiple different things from characters, to plots, to settings and even covers and authors. Now I warn you, after the photo there might be spoilers. I repeat; THERE MIGHT BE SPOILERS AFTER THE PHOTO! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

The majority of us have read these books when they first come out. Or if you're like me, you read them pretty late. I read the books back in March of 2012, so they had all been out for a while and I was 20. Well away from my teenage years. Now the thing is, while I did like and enjoy the novels, I didn't like them as much as I thought I would. Now, I know don't know the reason why but I think that I know why I was a bit underwhelmed with these books.

The first reason is that it might have been hyped up. Everyone and their mothers were talking about how amazing these books were. They had been on my list for the longest and when the movie came out, I went to the midnight premiere and fell in love with it. I was so excited to read the books but only years later did I have the chance and it just wasn't the same. I think I was expecting something a lot more than what it truly gave me.

Could it have been hyped up? Possibly. Sometimes people talk so much and so grand about novels that you're expecting the book to end all books and then out of nowhere it's average. It happens all the time with a lot of books. Especially in the YA community. People talk about books nonstop, get you hyped up, and then they suck. It's happened to me so many times, that I no longer to you people half the time. By you people, I mean other bloggers. I listen to some but others.... You guys need to stop doing this to me!!!!

The other reason that might be the reason why I didn't enjoy them as much, is my age. I truly think that I was too old to understand the innocence behind the books. I'm growing old and I've got to face it. I won't be able to read certain books and capture the magic that they truly hold. My mind is so poisoned and infiltrated with adultism that I can handle the magic of innocence anymore. I can't handle the fact that these kids are going to win because I'm used to seeing characters dying. I can't handle couples staying together, because I'm used to seeing them separated.

Reading adult novels and older YA books has literally ruined my mind. I can no longer read a children's novel and see it for what it is. I'm always expecting the worse to happen and when it doesn't I think that it is too easy. And it kills me! I want my innocence back! D= That doesn't mean I still didn't enjoy them. I'll still read Rick Riordan's novels but they just won't be the same.

Stacking The Shelves (8)

Hey Chroniclers! This post is a bit late but I haven't been feeling well and was being a bit too lazy to get the books and take the picture and do all of this but I am doing it for sure! Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Tynga over at Tynga's Reviews where we show what we got during the week. This week I got a little more than the usual one book so I'm pretty excited for it!

This week has been a bit exciting. First off I bought the last book in The Circle Opens Quartet Shatterglass by Tamora Pierce. I can't wait to finally read the quartet and see how it all turns out. I might read them around April or May though but we'll see.

I received a Hardcover copy of The Colossus Rises by Peter Lerangis, which is the first book of the Seven Wonders Series, from HarperCollins Publishers. It looks very interesting and so good and reminds me of Rick Riordan's work who actually gave has a blurb on the cover. I also love the cover and the whole book in general. Very well put together. 

Also I saw that Peter Lerangis had a prequel novella of around 50 pages called The Selection for the kindle and nook and it was free. Now I only use the nook for review which actually, I barely use at all. And we all know how I feel about novella.s But this being so short and being free I decided to just get it and check it out before I read the book. It's still available for both Nook and Kindle.

Monday's Novel Talk (47)

Whoa! It's been a while since I've posted. I have actually been really sick, like in bed can't get up sick. Yea, that bad. But I've still been reading and finishing some books on top of that. Since last Monday, March 26th I have finished 3 books and started a 4th.

The Last Olympian: Finally finished the last Percy Jackson book and it was amazing. Loved how the whole book itself was a battle and it truly excited me because usually last books take their time to build up to the last battle and then have it last like 1/4 of the book. But this battle was more like 3/4 of the book and it was amazing!

Percy Jackson: The Ultimate Guide: I did say I was going to read all of the books but this was more like a recap of the whole series. There was a bit new information but it was basically just all five books wrapped up.

Percy Jackson: The Demigod Files: This offered 3 new short stories to the Percy Jackson universe and they were good. But I think I kind of wanted to finish the whole Percy Jackson and just move on to other books. But I still enjoyed the stories a lot. They were great additions to the universe.

Crossed: I'm currently reading Crossed by Ally Condie and am on page 271 of 367 and I'm enjoying it MORE than I did the first book Matched. There seems to be more action and suspense than there was in the first book and I only hope it keeps going up from here on. I'll be finishing this book tonight so let's see how it is!

Cover Reveal: The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan

Barnes & Noble has JUST released the cover along with the title for the third novel in the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan. I present to you The Serpent's Shadow. 

I still haven't read the first nor the second book in the series but I do plan on getting them some time this year and reading them all. I do like the cover, it seems to match the other two and I love the blue blending in with the  orange-créme color. Looking into it further it seems really interesting and I actually want to know what is going on in there so I might have to buy it sometime soon.

The book will be released May 01, 2012 and you will be one book closer to the finale. Let me know what you guys think of the cover down in the comments below.
