Monday's Novel Talk (11)

Happy Monday my fellow 203 followers! YAY! I'm getting away from the 100's quicker! Haha! Anyway, aside from my crazy mind I have been reading a bit. Not much because of classes but I'm trying to finish Clockwork Angel really really soon.

I'm on Page 192 and we're supposed to meet Magnus Bane and he's like my favorite character in this world. So I can't wait to see how he's different or the same back in the day. I actually like this set of characters more than I do of the other three. They're just more interesting to me. Or it might just be the time period that makes them even more interesting. No idea. =D Hopefully I'll finish this one this week so I can move on to other books such as
The Demon King and Naked Empire
.

I feel like I should get another weekly post for Monday's since they tend to be really short. If you guys have any ideas just leave a comment down below. I'll also be thinking of some stuff to post up. More stuff to post up actually haha. So yea, leave comments down below. I always respond to people and interact with you guys.

So until tomorrow! xD

Oh on another note. Some really weird crap has been going on. My post fonts aren't being consistent. I use Arial, Normal. And it keeps changing by itself to different stuff and it's starting to piss me off. =D But is this just me or is others having the same problem?

Book Review: Bitten

I finished this book some time ago and had written a review but it wasn't what I wanted so I waited until I got my spark to change it up. It might be blah now, but it was worse before.

Title: Bitten
Author: Kelley Armstrong
Pages: 436
Rating: E for Exceeds Expectations
Review: I want to feel the excruciating pain of the Change. Be able to run free, and smell things from a mile away. Feel the fear of humans and creatures alike. Taunt them, play with them, let them know that I am able to kill every last one of them without a swift, easy movement. I want to be part of the Pack. Hunt down Mutts who are causing enough trouble to deserve death. I want the curse. I want to be a Werewolf.

Elena is not a teen like other heroines in most novels. She’s in her thirties so that’s a change, possibly for the better. Her mind is not being plagued with thoughts of high school crushes and what she should wear tomorrow and if Bobby is into her and will ask her to the Winter Formal. She grew up with a rough life. Her parents died when she was young and she was moved from foster home to foster home, never finding a place that would keep her long enough. Until she was bitten, then she found a family. The Pack. All she wanted was the perfect life. A life she never had. Kids, a husband, a job. Everything everyone dreamed of. But she can’t. She’s cursed.

Elena is living with her boyfriend Phillip when she receives an urgent call. Mutts are attacking the people in Stonehaven, the land where Elena used to live with the Pack and they need her help to track them down. But not only does her “family” live there, the one who changed her does too. It would be impossible to miss him, even with a bag over her head. You may have guessed it already, but this novel is also a Romance Novel. About 25% of it.

Now, aside from the awesome wolf scenes. There is the occasional human scene where we get to learn more and more about Elena as a person. I do admit that these scenes were a bit slow, I, myself, would rather read about her messing with some human and attempting to kill some evil doers. But a novel can’t be all fun and games. We have to learn about some things the hard way.

But, perhaps that is just me. I’d rather read the werewolf side rather than the human side because I’m a guy. During her werewolf moments it is more about the adrenaline and the hunt. Where her human side is more about the emotions. Not to mention the steamy sex scenes where the guy is described yet not the girl. Talk about let down. Not in a pervish way. I’m a guy, I’d rather read about girls. Not graphic but whatever.

Kelley Armstrong’s writing was a bit of a mix for me. Like I said, when she was in werewolf mode everything was exciting. Only to be brought to a more calmer side during her human mode. It changed too much for me to fully understand and grasp her style. There wasn’t really a consistency with her writing. But how she wrote the story itself, I actually like it. Except for the ending. While it is shocking, it was just another girl novel for me. The way that a certain character was treated, left behind and forgotten broke my heart. Not because I’ve been there before, perhaps it is, but because I feel for people like that. Just because she had a connection with one person doesn’t mean that she should just forget the other.

Perhaps, that’s what threw me off at the end. Aside from the writing, the romance scenes and the ending, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just don’t think it’s one of her best works though.

Thursday's Author Spotlight (7)

I had the privilege of being able to read a book by an author who is debuting her first YA novel soon, but not her first novel in general. Before I got the book, I thought it would be a good novel but I never expected it to be really good.

Kersten Hamilton surely is an amazing author. Born in High Rolls, New Mexico, in 1958, Hamilton, like many other authors, looks to be younger than she really is. I am beginning to suspect that all authors are part of this cult where they become immortal and trade in their ideas for more years in their lives. I will be part of that one day. =O

Kersten Hamilton, by the age of six, already knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. A writer. How many writers at that age were already able to predict their future? Not many, but she's part of them. And how lucky are we to have her as a writer. To elaborate on the few sentences up top;

I first saw Tyger, Tyger on netgalley and thought it looked interesting. You know the saying, don't judge a book by its cover? Well I sometimes do. Horrible I know, but EVERYONE does it. Anyway, I got interested and looked at what it was about. Goblins. Well there's a change. So I added it to my list of books to read. A week or so later, I received an email from Kersten Hamilton herself. Talking about her book and if I would be able to review a copy for her to read online.

I quickly apologized because reading online is horrible for me. It's not that I don't like it, it's more that I can't do it. It kills my eyesight and I won't be able to see anything for the day. (I wear glasses but never wear them since I need to buy new ones and am too lazy to go.) So a week passed and I worked up the courage, and apologized some more, if there were any actual book form ARC copies of the book. She said she'll ask and she did! Next thing I knew, I had the book in my hand and was super excited.

I finally read the book and HOLY CRAP! I seriously can't wait for it to actually be released in November. It's one of those books where it's all new to you. The story, characters, the villains. Everything was new and exciting to me. And let me tell you, I now love Goblins. I actually always did but now I want to read more of Goblins. I just can't wait until book 2 is released. And book 1 is yet to be released O.o it's that good.

Now you should all go and pre-order a copy of the novel.

Tyger Tyger (November 2010)

Pre-order it or just go out and buy it on the first day. Plus, I'm completely behind her 100% because it's not about vampires. It's a different mythical being all together. That's different, unique and better. Plus Vampires suck. Just saying.

Guess That Novel (9)

My fellow people! How I love you all! My followers count is going up again! YAY! Anyway, I love my classes so far. The first day was great, I got a book bag finally, and am going to buy my books tomorrow. =D

Anyway, I'm starting this Guess That Novel over. Not from 1 but I won't follow the previous one.

So this is how it'll go. I'm giving you a short paragraph and you answer the question, which novel is it from and who wrote it?

"He's been living in a cave." Abby took the keyboard back, typed "Irish Travelers" in the Google box, and got 12,000 hits.

Okay, a hint, the book still hasn't been really released officially. And yes I have read it.

So, to answer this question click this link (thisone) and fill it out. That way no one can copy your answer. No one will know who got it first and no one will know what other people say. But to make me feel better you should still comment down there with whether you think you got it right or not. That'll make me feel a lot better because I love comments.

The true question is, can you Guess That Novel?

Blog Tag! 8 Questions For Me? How Nice!

Reading, Reading & Life tagged everyone who was tagged by MultipleMama. The whole thing is to answer eight question left on their site. Now, for the questions!

Why did you start blogging?
I always loved to read and write and just thought that I could have fun doing both of them by connecting with people. Plus I wanted to entertain people with my awesomeness!

If you could travel anywhere in the world with no restrictions of costs, where would it be and why?
Easy! New Zealand and Scotland for the majestic views. Japan for the culture. Italy, France, Greece and Spain for the wonderful sights and histories. And about everywhere else in the world! I would say Portugal but I go there so often xD

Did you have a teacher in school that had a great influence on your life? If so, what?
Funny you ask that! My 9th grade English teacher who I despised, loathed and hated. Strong words to say about a person but I'm telling you she was horrible. A liar on top of that telling us she was the first fire-lady! YOU LIE! But because she would pick on me, and I vividly remember her calling me a dog and that I was searching for food, I started writing to show her how I'm better than her and everything. And because of that I started writing my novel and it's a huge impact in my life because it's what I want to do. It is my life now.

If you could spend a day with a famous person, who would it be, and what would you do?
Oh dear Merlin, this one is a toughy. There's so many famous people I want to spend a day with. J.K. Rowling because she's amazing and just being around her would be amazing! Evanna Lynch and Emma Watson would be to hang out and talk and chill. Stephenie Meyer to ask her WHY!?!?! I can't narrow this down, it'll keep going on so I shall stop here. =D

Toilet paper - over or under?
What an odd yet entertaining question. Over, if you put it under I will hit you with it. Although it won't hurt but I'll make you fear it! Just kidding, or am I? o.O

Tell about your pets - if any.
4 dogs, all beagles, three females and one male. And two birds, I'm sure they're Parakeets. A female and a male couple. Always kissing and making out and they will not shut up during dinner. Yet when it's over they're really quiet. -__-

Do you live in a small town or a large town? (You don't have to name the town.)
I already have stalkers so who cares. Newark is a pretty big city. And I hate it. Well not all of it just most of it. I'd rather be near some mountains! A lake, some woods and even hills. But no. . . all I see is buildings. Oh and I'm from New Jersey. YEA JOISEY!
<.<
>.>

Tag! You're it now! Take the same eight questions and make a post with the questions and answers and then tag everyone else. Fill out that form to add your blog so that everyone else can see. Don't be shy, it's fun!

Tuesday's Novel Spotlight (6)

Today is a special day. For one novel that has been talked about all summer has just been released!

Firelight by Sophie Jordan is about this girl with a big secret. She's actually a Dragon who is hiding in the form of a human only because she and others are being hunted by Hunters. Jacinda must live in the human world and adapt to the strangeness around her, or it will be the end of her beautiful life.

Now this seems pretty amazing. A Dragon who is able to hide him/herself as a human. And I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that each Dragon has a special power. Jacinda is the ability to breath fire. I'm pretty sure that was how it went.

Now, I've never read anything by this author, so while the story might seem amazing the author might not be. But I have faith in her enough to trust her and buy this book. When I get money that is. -__-

I'm also kind of eh because of the old dragon story. Last time I read something about dragons I kind of stopped on book two and never continued. coughEragon&Eldestcough. I haven't read any other dragon novels, although I do have Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. I still haven't read it though. But hopefully this is good enough.

Like I said the book is released today, so if your buying it, tell us how it is. And I do remember that ARC of this novel have been out already, so if you have read it already tell me what you guys think. Do you think I'll like this novel? Is it worth buying? Does this make dragons look cool?

Leave your comments below! xD

Now I must get ready for class. -dies- History 102, here I come!
