Monday's Novel Talk (4)

I finally have this up on schedule! Haha, but anyway today I'll be sharing you guys the two books I'm reading which you are able to see on the right side. So I'm currently listening to the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Soundtrack and it just reminded me.

This morning, early morning not my waking up time morning, I woke up out of nowhere and was facing my bookcase. And I noticed that my wand cover, which is this red velvet from Allivans where I bought the wand, wasn't at the bottom. So I look to the side and see it all like folded up and stuff on the side. So I'm wondering where the hell the wand is when I pull back the covers and noticed that it was in my hand. I'm seriously wondering what I was doing and who I was battling at night. Odd, I have a wand right? SO WHAT?! I'm a big ass potter fan and will buy more wands!

Anyway, Yes! I am still reading Naked Empire by Terry Goodkind. Actually I'm not really reading it. I'm still on the whole Chapter 2, Page 9 thing. Haha, let's not get started with that again. I really want to finish it and miss Kahlan, Cara, Zedd and Richard. So I'm thinking of some way to read it while reading my other book.

I'm also reading Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1. I still don't really understand what's going on. It's 3 books in 1. And so far there are 3 books planned. What I think and really hope is, is that they're re-releasing all Buffy books into this 3 in 1 plan and it's all in order like what happened first. Like in the show. If they do that it'll be really epic and awesome. I know Book 1 is Season 1 because it talks about the Hyena episodes. And Willow and Xander getting led on by Vampires in a cemetery.

And Book 2 has a Halloween story which Season 1 doesn't have a Halloween episode. So I'm really hoping they re-releasing all of the books in this plan and all in order. That'll be wicked.

Book 1, the three stories in it are, Coyote Moon, Night of the Living Rerun, and Portal Through Time.

In Coyote Moon, which I have finished, this Carnival comes to Sunnydale and the carnies are all weird. Comes to find out that they have some type of powers and stuff and Buffy needs to stop them before they raise some evil dude.

In Night of the Living Rerun which I'm in the beginning of, Buffy is having dreams of a past Slayer. That's where I'm at so far haha. I told you I was in the beginning.

I really actually want to read Portal Through Time only because it shows past Slayers and stuff. Really like Slayers and loved the last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

So yea, this is a short Monday's Novel Talk. But something else, I have so many books to read and review and I really want to read Naked Empire. But I want to read that and only that, I'm getting kinda tired of reading multiple books at a time. So I don't know if I should just keep reading the review books by day and Naked Empire by night, or take a break and just read Naked Empire. I don't know! Give me your thoughts on this people. =D

Novel/Author Rant (1)

Yesterday I posted up a review for The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer. I also told you that I had some things to say about this book which I do.

I might seem selfish or whatever else you guys think but I do not agree with the 1 dollar per book being donated. Now before you go commenting calling me evil and stuff just keep reading.

She offered the novel up on her website for free. She's selling the novel for 10 dollars max. Was it so hard for her to give 50% of the money to Red Cross? I'm not even talking about 100% because we know SMeyer loves her money. But at least 50% especially when it's for something so important as to helping victims.

Now to those who say, 100% can't be done, it can. J.K. Rowling, Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Both of those mini-novels gave 100% of the money to charity and if I remember correctly it was Comedy Relief. If I'm not mistaken she also gave the money for The Tales of Beedle the Bard to charity. If she didn't for the hardcover one she did for the Collector's Edition which was 100 dollars.

Now the thing that bothers me the most about this 1 dollar is that if you read in the back it says;

"$1.00 for each hardcover copy of this book sold in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which supports disaster relief efforts such as those in Haiti and Chile. For more information on the American Red Cross, go to www.redcross.org. Donations will continue until all first-printing copies have been sold or at the end of a two-year period from the initial publication date, whichever is the first to occur."

Seriously, you're telling me that if the first printing was 1 million copies, Red Cross would only get 1 million dollars? THAT IS, if all first copies were sold and if it was bought in the two year limit. She could've done so much more. I mean she is rich! People out there need more money to rebuild everything they had before.

It's a bit sad. I mean I'm glad that she even considered of giving the dollar but it could've been so much more. A lot more.

Book Review: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

For those of you who know me, you're probably wondering why I read this novel. Why I even bought it. Well I kind of explain that in my review, which is pretty short and suckish. I couldn't think of what to write and it hasn't really been my week. So without further ado...

Title: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

Author: Stephenie Meyer

Rating: P for Poor

Review: Is it possible, for an author to write about a minor character, better than her main characters? Is it possible, that she makes us actually care for this character, even if we do know her fate? Is it possible that we can like this book, yet hate the series? It seems like it is impossible, but Stephenie Meyer seems to manage the impossible once again. This time it’s good.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is an Eclipse novella that follows Bree Tanner, a newborn, in a short span of a few days as she begins to find out that what she thought was the truth was only a myth. She thinks that all of these vampires being created is only something that is ordinary, but when she finds out the truth, that this is in fact an army, her life spins out of control.

In the midst, she befriends two other vampires. One who helps Bree in finding the truth and another who knows everything but keeps to himself. All three characters lives actually spun out to be an interesting read and make us care more for them than we do for Bella, Edward and Jacob. Perhaps it is the fact that we get to read about evil vampires and see what they do best, kill people and suck their blood and cause mayhem, rather than seeing “vegetarian” vampires and shape shifters who are called werewolves.

I originally got this novella to see if Stephenie Meyer’s way of writing had changed. And to see if she was able to actually write about good characters. While the characters weren’t full 3-D blown, they had enough life to last them for a short time. And if you are wondering, her writing ways have not changed. I spent about a day wondering why Edward’s hair in the Saga is described as golden and bronze, yet in this novella he’s described as a red-head. It boggled my mind.

The novella features some main characters towards the end as it ties everything up into a sad little bow. Now that I look at it, the cover for Eclipse would match this story. As it is a novella, this review is pretty short. I know, but there’s not much to say unless I spoil a lot which I do not want to do.

But I seriously hope Stephenie Meyer does get better with her work.

Finally I'm on time with this. So I'm startling to realize the type of friends I have and it's getting me pissed off that I can't trust them. I mean I trust all of you more than I trust them and they were the only people I trusted so that's saying something. Well it's seriously driving me to go ahead with my life and make sure I have my career and dream all completed and look at them working at a 9-5 job.

I hate people who you trust with things and they use that against you. But anyway, forget about them. Oh and this does not include Veronica. She hasn't done anything to me and that's why I love her.

Anyway, continuing with my Top 5... So far they are;

TERRY GOODKIND! Oh how I love this author as an author!

Terry Goodkind was born in 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. The thing I love about this author the most is that he has dyslexia. He struggled through his High School years and dropped out of College to pursue non-writing jobs. Until he discovered his talent and started writing.

Now it may be odd to say that I love Terry Goodkind because he has dyslexia but to me it's not. He shows the perfect example of fighting against those who tell you, you can't do something. I can only imagine how everyone would tell him he wouldn't be able to become an author and how dyslexia did its hardest to turn him the opposite direction. But he actually fought against that and produced one of the best series of all time.

I first heard about Terry Goodkind through television. I was watching CW 11 when they gave an ad for this new show called Legend of the Seeker. I was like "Whoa! A fantasy show! How epic!" and was there on its premiere and immediately fell in love with it. I later found out during the show that it was a series of books and added them to my Books To Buy list. Season 2 started and I had not read any of the books but went out and bought them. I told myself I wouldn't read them until I had all of the books. And plus, I was reading something else. So on January 1, 2010 I began reading them and I fell in love!

The story, the details, the characters, the adventures! EVERYTHING! I felt a great connection with the whole story. Funny thing is that I'm not even done yet. I'm only on book 8 of 12. Other books got in the way and I'm greatly missing my beloved Kahlan and Cara. Especially since the show ended.

Terry Goodkind has only published these works. Starting in 1994 and continuing on until now. The show Legend of the Seeker has gotten cancelled, but fans, including myself, have not stopped fighting to bring it back since day 1. We are still getting newspapers and news channels and magazines talking about us. I don't think we'll give up for a long time either.

If you haven't checked out his work, please do. I'm telling you. It is High Fantasy. Adult Fantasy so I would recommend you being around 17 to read the series. It has semi-graphic sex scenes and graphic fighting scenes. And the thing is that it's heavy. I don't know how to explain. Where you read YA novels and it feels light this novel feels heavy because of it's adultish themes.

If I had never read from this author, I probably wouldn't know half the things I do today. He makes you want to fight for what you want and his novels are full of examples of what is wrong and what is right. He makes you think about the world today and the world tomorrow. It's just a pity that I hadn't read the books earlier though. Because I could've used some advice from him.

In April 2010, Goodkind singed a contract to publish three fiction novels with Tor Books. The first will be the new Richard and Kahlan novel.

I'm a bit OCD with my books so when I saw that the covers didn't match I went a bit crazy. But I found out that they had matching covers but only in Paperback. They're the best though. =D

Guess That Novel (6)

Let's start off! Last week's Guess That Novel was a bit different. While you had to guess the novel, you also had to guess 5 different things.

4 characters and 1 object.

He turned his back on their strained, incredulous faces. He knew it was the truth. It all made sense. [Character 1] was not seeking a new [object]; he was seeking an old [object], a very old [object] indeed. [Character 2] walked to the entrance of the tent, forgetting about [Character 3] and [Character 4] as he looked out into the night thinking...

So I just noticed last week I made Character 3 into 2. My bad.

Now, the thing was, whoever got the answer right of the novel got their link featured. But another winner would be possible if they guessed who the 4 Characters and 1 Object was. That person would have their link featured in my post for the whole week until the next Guess The Novel.

So, I'm really happy that there are epic Potter fans. To even guess it on their first try is amazing.

Now for the next novel, this one is based off of a new novel that just came out in June. Kind of a new novel. Can't give away anymore.

So here it goes.

Suddenly a pack of wild animals burst from one of the side yards and loped to a stop in front of [name]. With a startled howl, the mustachioed hero sprang backward and scurried toward [name]. While her friends fell in line behind the [title], the pack completed a lazy circle around them. Their actions reminded [name] of a pack of hyenas she had once encountered at the zoo, but they looked more like dogs.

You won't have to say the names of the the [name] and [title]. But you can if you want to. It just won't do anything.

You're job is to tell me which book this is. This is a bit of a trick though. It's actually a book inside of a book. So I want you to tell me both titles of the books =D
