Cover Reveal: Smoke by Ellen Hopkins

You guys do not know how freaking excited I am for this damn book! Anything that involves Ellen Hopkins I will jump on it so hard, I might break it! And today, the cover for her 2013 YA novel was revealed!

I'm so excited I can barely even type! Smoke by Ellen Hopkins is a sequel to one of her earliest novels Burned.

The cover was revealed on EW.com with the official description. SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST BOOK!

Pattyn Von Stratten's father is dead, and Pattyn is on the run. After far too many years of abuse at the hands of her father, and after the tragic loss of her beloved Ethan and their unborn child, Pattyn is desperate for peace. Only her sister Jackie knows what happened that night, but she is stuck at home with their mother, who clings to normalcy by allowing the truth to be covered up by their domineering community leaders. Her father might be finally gone, but without Pattyn, Jackie is desperately isolated. Alone and in disguise, Pattyn starts a new life, but is it even possible to rebuild a life when everything you've known has burned to ash and lies seem far safer than the truth?

SPOILERS ENDED!

Now as we all know, it's not only about the cover or the story! The actual cover itself is what I also can't wait to see. Each cover of her novels are completely different with different feels and sets themselves apart from the other novels and I can't wait to see what this looks like in person.

Smoke is set to be released September 10th 2013!

An Update

Hey Chroniclers! This will be a short post. Basically, since the last time I posted I was attacked by eye allergies out of nowhere! I mean I was blinking every .2 seconds, they were so itchy I could barely see. Now it seems as if it's getting better but I'm still blinking more than usual and they still itch and everything looks a bit blurry. Point is I haven't exactly read much. I try but the constant blinking makes me lose my place and I get aggravated and just grr. But I really do hope that it goes away and doesn't return ever. I'll try to read some today and hopefully the posts can go back to usual.

Thank you all for still sticking around! This is why I love you! <3 nbsp="" p="">

Stacking The Shelves (8)

Hey Chroniclers! This post is a bit late but I haven't been feeling well and was being a bit too lazy to get the books and take the picture and do all of this but I am doing it for sure! Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Tynga over at Tynga's Reviews where we show what we got during the week. This week I got a little more than the usual one book so I'm pretty excited for it!

This week has been a bit exciting. First off I bought the last book in The Circle Opens Quartet Shatterglass by Tamora Pierce. I can't wait to finally read the quartet and see how it all turns out. I might read them around April or May though but we'll see.

I received a Hardcover copy of The Colossus Rises by Peter Lerangis, which is the first book of the Seven Wonders Series, from HarperCollins Publishers. It looks very interesting and so good and reminds me of Rick Riordan's work who actually gave has a blurb on the cover. I also love the cover and the whole book in general. Very well put together.

Also I saw that Peter Lerangis had a prequel novella of around 50 pages called The Selection for the kindle and nook and it was free. Now I only use the nook for review which actually, I barely use at all. And we all know how I feel about novella.s But this being so short and being free I decided to just get it and check it out before I read the book. It's still available for both Nook and Kindle.

So that's all I got this week and it's pretty exciting. What did you guys get? Leave the link down below!

Cover Reveal: Snakeroot by Andrea Cremer

I was not expecting this at all but a new novel by Andrea Cremer is being released!

Snakeroot by Andrea Cremer takes place right after Bloodrose turning the trilogy into a series.

Andrea Cremer says, "Snakeroot focuses on Adne's struggles to adjust to the post-Witches War world of Searchers. She's plagued by disturbing dreams and visions, all of which draw her to the gardens of Rowan Estate. The cover image perfectly depicts the way in which Adne has become entangled by her own turbulent emotions and an encroaching dark magic."

Snakeroot will be released December 2013.

I have to say that this is by far my favorite cover of the series. I wasn't expecting the blue because they had done it for Rift and I was thinking they'd go with different colors each book but I do like it. Hopefully it's a different blue. But I can't wait for this book and this has made my day.

What do you guys think of the cover? Leave your thoughts down below!

Cast Them Away (4)

Hey Chroniclers! This is post 399! I am starving and the only thing I have at the moment is burritos. El burrito it is. And by el burrito I mean the burrito and not the donkey. Spanish jokes, what what? Anyway! Today is Wednesday which means it's time for another Cast Them Away! A weekly meme hosted by your truly, >.>, in which I choose an actor or actress to play a certain character from a book if it were a movie. Now the first time I did this I chose John Green novels in which you can find the post here. If you read it you know that I had a hard time casting the role of Hazel in The Fault In Our Stars. Until now.

Like I said, this week's novel is The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. I had a difficult time trying to find an actress to cast Hazel and even went as far as saying to cast a newcomer for the role. While I still think it could be good to cast a newcomer, this is all about finding the right actress.

The Fault In Our Stars is about a girl who lives with cancer and meets a guy in a support group for children/teens with cancer that basically not only changes her life but shows her what living is all about. It's a sweet and loving story with humor and heart-wrenching moments. I truly enjoyed the novel a lot and it's one of those that even though it is sad, it makes you feel good. It's a feel good novel.

The person I would cast for the role falls to two people. One is based on how she looks in my head while the other is who I know has the acting chops for it. The looks go to...

Valorie Curry! I was introduced to this beautiful actress in the new FOX show The Following. Immediately I thought, Hazel Grace! And it would be interesting to see her take the part. But seeing as how Valorie plays a psycho on the show, I don't know how her sweet emotional parts are just yet.

I also found out that Valorie played a vampire in Breaking Dawn: Part 2. She played the role of Charlotte who also didn't have that big of a part. I of course am watching The Following religiously so I hope she gets a scene where she's vulnerable and emotional just so I can see how she is. But for now she looks like Hazel Grace.

The other person who I think can pull it off who has the looks and the acting skills is an actress who was in The Perks of Being A Wallflower, Parenthood, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to name a few.

The actress is...

Mae Whitman!

Now both her and Valorie have two different looks but I think that Mae Whitman would be a good movie version of Hazel. Aside from the looks I know she can act which is something that I much prefer over the looks really.

If you can't act like Hazel then you can't be Hazel.

And her name is actually being thrown around for the actual role of which the movie is going to be filmed very soon. If I'm not mistaken they said that they wanted to start filming in September but don't quote me on that.

What do you guys think of the two actresses though? Do you have someone else in mind? Who would you cast as Augustus?! Leave your comments down below and let me know!

The Novel's Court (3)

Hey Chroniclers! How it's going on this fine Tuesday? Tuesday is the day that books are released into the world but before you get your hands on them they must go through a process. The Novel's Court is a weekly meme hosted by me, where I put a book through three categories and let you know whether they're Guilty (worth reading) or Not Guilty (leave it alone). It is done with debut novels or the first novel of a series that has been released. This week is...

Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys!
Loving the name, sounds fancy.

It's 1950, and as the French Quarter of New Orleans simmers with secrets, seventeen-year-old Josie Moraine is silently stirring a pot of her own. Known among locals as the daughter of a brothel prostitute, Josie wants more out of life than the Big Easy has to offer. She devises a plan to get out, but a mysterious death in the Quarter leaves Josie tangled in an investigation that will challenge her allegiance to her mother, her conscience, and Willie Woodley, the brusque madam on Conti Street.

Josie is caught between the dream of an elite college and a clandestine underworld. New Orleans lures her in her quest for truth, dangling temptation at every turn, and escalating to the ultimate test.

With characters as captivating as those in her internationally bestselling novel Between Shades of Gray, Ruta Sepetys skillfully creates a rich story of secrets, lies, and the haunting reminder that decisions can shape our destiny.

Time for Court!

The Story: I don't know if it's because lately I've been loving contemporary novels and enjoying them immensely but this sounds really good actually. I especially like the fact that there's no romance mentioned in the synopsis even though there's a chance it might involve romance. But catch me by surprise. Really like how it sounds different than most YA contemporary's and that it's taking chances.

The Cover: I'm actually very much in love with the cover. I like the greens which is my favorite part actually. How the cover itself looks a bit like pastel type. Like the cage and how the girl is sitting behind the cage looking defeated and/or bored. I think it means that even though she's free she's still trapped by something. But seriously, I really love the green tones to this. I kind of want to see how this looks in person right now. >.>

The Verdict: Guilty! I'll actually be checking out some reviews on this one and if it's as good as it sounds then I'll just have to add it to my wishlist. And that, my fellow Chroniclers, is law!

What are your thoughts on the story and cover? Have you read it or want to read it? Thoughts on the author as well? Leave your comments down below!

Monday's Novel Talk (59)

Hey Chroniclers! First off this is post 398! Holy crap! But anywho, sorry for the late post but I just finished cleaning the room and fixing some things and doing laundry for the first time. I'm so exhausted! D'= But I'm sure I lost like 15 pounds from walking up and down those damn steps. Aside from that though, I have been sick a bit and I've been taking medication which has been putting me to sleep and knocking me out when I want to read.

Since last week I have finished How To Save A Life by Sara Zarr. I enjoyed the book, although the characters really were a bit unlikable in the beginning. But by the end I was happy with how it ended even though I called it from about halfway. It was a feel good book and I'm glad I read it. I might try to review the book but I really need to think more about it and figure out what I actually thing. The book also allowed me to check Colorado off of my 50 States Book Challenge!

I also started reading A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin. Let me tell you, I knew I was going to like this book and love it at some point, but I love it so much already! It's really giving me Harry Potter feelings with the way that there's some scenes that have nothing to do with plot but build the character and gives us history with the characters and I love that so much! It also switches character perspective with each chapter so we get different story lines and it's not set on just one thing. I'm currently on page 218 out of 674. So I'm almost done >.>

But that's basically all that I've been reading. What have you guys been reading? Leave your comments down below!

Stacking The Shelves (7)

Hey Chroniclers! I almost forgot to put this up today! I've been sick for the past few days and my mind has been scattered really. Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by the amazing Tynga over at Tynga's Reviews where we share the books we bought or received during the week to show you guys new books or old books you might be interested in. Also, The Walking Dead returns back on TV and I'm so freaking excited for it! But let's get on with what I got!

This week I only got one book once again.

I bought Cold Fire by Tamora Pierce. It's Book 3 in The Circle Opens Quartet which is a sequel series to The Circle Closes Quartet. I am now just one book away from owning the quartet. As I told you in another posted where I bought the second book; I read the first book in the first quartet and the first two in the second when I was younger and loved them. Years later I decided to buy the books and read them again along with the other ones. This is seriously an amazing series. I love the characters, I love the magic, the writing, the setting. Just everything.

I didn't even buy this myself. My mom bought me after I made a joke that the gray hair I found on my head is from the stress my parents cause me. I then told her I had a 20% off coupon and I got the book for like 5 Bucks.

I was supposed to start my job on Monday but with the luck I have and some bullcrap, I didn't get to start and wasn't even called. I really want to do a giveaway for you guys. I mean I even have books here brand new that I could give to ya'll but the shipping is what I need money for. But hopefully I find something soon to bring you guys happiness.

Anyway, let me know what you guys got this week in the comments below.

Cast Them Away (3)

Hey Chroniclers! Happy Wednesday! I think it's Wednesday. My days are so off this week that I don't even know what's going on. I feel a bit confused and as if something is missing but there isn't. I think I might need to start running again to get out of the house more often. Let us get on with business though! Cast Them Away is a weekly meme hosted by me, The Subtle Chronicler, in which I choose an actor or an actress for a role from a book if it were ever to become a movie. WARNING: There may be spoilers withing if you haven't read the novel.

This week's will be a novel that I just finished reading this early morning! How To Save A Life by Sara Zarr! How To Save A Life is the story told from two different perspectives, Mandy and Jill. Mandy is a girl from Omaha who is pregnant and runs away to the house of a lady, Robin, who will be adopting her unborn child. Jill is the daughter of Robin who doesn't trust Mandy at all. Through-out the novel we see the truth, lies, the hurt and the trust between the two girls as the story unravels, but there's one person who I saw clearly in my mind with an actress. Robin.

Robin decides to adopt a baby out of the blue about a year after her husband's death. Along the novel, we see many moments where Robin stands tall and knows exactly what she wants. But then, there are others where she crumbles and breaks down and doesn't know what to do with her life anymore.

The person I would cast for this role would be...

Jamie Lee Curtis! Robin reminded me so much of Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday, the movie. In the book, Robin decides that enough is enough with moping and cuts her hair short and goes through this transformation to keep living life after her husband. She's in her early fifties but looks younger.

I think that Jamie Lee Curtis would be amazing for this part. I think it'd be a good role to bring Jamie back onto the big screen. Seeing her as this tough and proud lady who's a hard business worker but then be able to see the emotional side, and that she's not able to keep herself holding on much longer.

Plus I freaking love Jamie Lee Curtis and just want her back. So what I say is; make this book a movie and contact Jamie Lee Curtis and give her the part! That's it! Just do it!

What do you guys think of the casting? Do you have anyone else in mind? Who would you cast for the roles of Mandy and Jill? Leave your comments below and let me know!

The Novel's Court (2)

Hey Chroniclers! How are you guys today? Hopefully doing good and not blah! xD Today is Tuesday which means some books have been set out into the world and straight into our hands. But, before we're able to buy them, they must go through a process called The Novel's Court. The Novel's Court is a weekly meme hosted by me where I bring debut novels through a "court-like" process and at the end say whether they're Guilty (read) or Not Guilty (not readable). And today, I bring you another novel.

City of a Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forster!

The girl with no past, and no future, may be the only one who can save their lives.

Nisha was abandoned at the gates of the City of a Thousand Dolls when she was just a little girl. Now sixteen, she lives on the grounds of the isolated estate, where orphan girls apprentice as musicians, healers, courtesans, and, if the rumors are true, assassins. She makes her way as Matron's errand girl, her closest companions the mysterious cats that trailer her shadow. Only when she begins a forbidden flirtation with the city's handsome young courier does she let herself imagine a life outside the walls. Until one by one, girls around her start to die.

Before she becomes the next victim, Nisha decides to uncover the secrets that surround the girl's death. But by getting involved, Nisha jeopardizes not only her own future in the City of a Thousand Dolls-but also her life.

Time for Court!

The Story: The synopsis was going to well until it reached the damn forbidden flirtation. I just don't understand why romance has to be brought into every single thing! At least keep it out of the synopsis and have it surprise attack me in the book. By then it'll be too late to not get the book and I'll keep reading. But, I'm hoping it's different and that he ends up actually being the killer or he dies or it's nothing but flirtation. Aside from that I love assassins so this sounds right up my alley.

The Cover: I really, really like the cover. I love the browns and yellows that are going on there. Love how the bottom is darker while the top is lighter. Love the red and the blue and how usually they'd clash but they're set perfectly well. Love the way the cover is designed, the girl in the middle, the cats on the sides. Love that she's standing on that river (I think it's a river) that leads to who knows where.

The Verdict: Despite the forbidden flirtation this one will actually get a Guilty! Guilty enough to read because it sounds damn good! Going to add this to my amazon wishlist right now! And that, my fellow Chroniclers, is law!

What are your thoughts on the story and cover? Have you read it or want to read it? Leave your comments down below!

Monday's Novel Talk (58)

Hey Chroniclers! How are you all on this fine Monday? I'm actually doing fantastic because I no longer have that headache from yesterday. It was a killer and took away from my reading time but luckily I woke up fresh and got to read!

Since last week I have finished Confessor by Terry Goodkind. The last book in the first arc of Sword of Truth series. It was such a bittersweet ending that made me tear up. At least I know that there's more books for the second arc!

I also finished the prequel Debt of Bones by Terry Goodkind. It was a short fun read about how Zedd conjured the boundaries and saved his daughter. It was pretty cool seeing some of the historical events in actual words and not just hearing about it.

I started reading How To Save A Life by Sara Zarr. This book I bought on random impulse last year when I was at a Barnes & Noble. It also reminded me of The Fray and so I just got it. So far I'm actually enjoying it. The nice change of pace from adult to YA is helping me relax my exhausted brain a bit before I tackle some more adult books. I should be done with this one soon as it's a pretty fast read and I seem to be enjoying it a bunch.

But that's all I've been reading. What are you guys reading? Leave your comments down below and let me know.

To Be Read Pile (February 2013)

Waddap Chroniclers?! It's freaking February already! The years just go by faster and faster. But with the new month comes the new To Be Read Pile! So let me introduce you guys the To Be Read Pile of February 2013!

To Be Read Pile (February 2013)
It might possibly look the same as January's but I've accomplished the greatest thing. I finally finished the Sword of Truth series and those were big adult books! Like I said, you possibly can't tell much of a difference but in my mind the list went down a lot!

To Be Read Pile (January 2013)
Last month I had 40 books. I got 2 books to add to the shelves. I finished 3 books and started my 4th. I am now at 38 books. While it doesn't seem like much, I've gotten some big adult books out of the way so it should be fairly easy from here on out.

I plan to read a YA next and then head right into Game of Thrones.

Do you have a picture of your TBR Pile? Leave the link to it down below.
