In My Mailbox/Book Haul (4)

I know that I'm late, but In My Mailbox is a weekly meme where you talk about and show the books you got for the week. Either in the mail, bought, gotten from the library or given. However way you got them. It's not showing off, just showing people in case they're looking for recommendations. It is hosted by The Story Siren so go check out her blog and if you haven't already, which you should have, follow her!

Anyway, let's see what I got this week. More like last week and the week before. Since sunday passed and I'm showing from the week before also. ANYWAY!

Hearts at Stake by Alyxandra Harvey

On Solange's sixteenth birthday, she is going to wake up dead. As if that's not bad enough, she also has to outwit her seven overprotective old brothers, avoid the politics involved with being the only daughter born to an ancient vampire dynasty, and elude Kieran Black - agent of an anti-vampire league who is searching for his father's killer and is intent on staking Solange and her entire family.

Luckily she has her own secret weapon - her human best friend Lucy - who is willing to defend Solange's right to a normal life, whether she's being smothered by her well-intentioned brothers or abducted by a power-hungry queen. Two unlikely alliances are formed in a race to save Solange's eternal life - Lucy and Solange's brother Nicholas, and Solange and Kieran Black - in a dual romance that that is guaranteed to jump start any romance-lover's heart.

A Lesson In Dying by Ernest J. Gaines

A Lesson Before Dying is set in a small Cajun community in the late 1940s. Jefferson, a young black man, is an unwitting party to a liquor store shootout in which three men are killed; the only survivor, he is convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Grant Wiggins, who left his hometown for the university, has returned to the plantation school to teach. As he struggles with his decision whether to stay or escape to another state, his aunt and Jefferson's godmother persuade him to visit Jefferson in his cell and impart his learning and his pride to Jefferson before his death. In the end, the two men forge a bond as they come to understand the simple heroism of resisting - and defying - the expected.

So those are the two books I got in the past two weeks. Hearts at Stake I won in a contest and A Lesson Before Dying is for my class in College. -__-

I'm excited about Hearts at Stake though! Sounds really good.

On another note, Leonor has loved me once more and made a button for a Saturday post. So Saturday I have a new post coming up. It's not about books so you'll have to check it out. It's a mix of different posts each Saturday. Sounds wtf but you'll see.

So this is yesterday's post. Which means I have to post today again. I shall get to that. =D
